For the weekly seminar of the STORM research group, David Coeurjolly(webpage), Directeur de Recherche CNRS from LIRIS lab in Lyon, will give a talk on Geometry processing on Voxel Objects.

This seminar will take place this week on Friday 17/05 at 12:30pm in the Salle des Thèses at IRIT.

Abstract
In many modeling or shape processing applications, the representation of 3D objects as a collection of voxels is an interesting alternative that offer several advantages: some volumetric operations become trivial and the regular lattice allows us to represent complex geometries in a very efficient way. However, when some performing geometry processing tasks on the voxel set surface, this model requires to revisit some geometry processing tools and theorems. In this presentation, we focus on the stability (multigrid convergence) of some differential estimators (normal vector fields, curvature tensor, Laplace-Beltrami operator…).

Bio
David Coeurjolly est Directeur de Recherche CNRS depuis octobre 2011 au laboratoire LIRIS. Ses activités s’inscrivent principalement dans le contexte du traitement numérique de la géométrie, de la géométrie discrète et de l’échantillonnage de points en informatique graphique. A l’issue d’un doctorat en informatique de l’Université Lumière Lyon2 en géométrie discrète en 2002, David Coeurjolly a ensuite rejoint le LIRIS en tant que chargé de recherches CNRS en 2003. Il a ensuite reçu une médaille de bronze du CNRS en 2009 pour ses activités en géométrie discrète et a soutenu son HDR en 2007. Impliqué dans la direction du GDR IGRV, de la Fédération Informatique de Lyon, et des structures recherches nationales et internationales de géométrie discrètes (Steering Committee DGCI, IAPR TC18), David Coeurjolly est également coanimateur de la bibliothèque communautaire open source DGtal (dgtal.org).
