Seminar 12/01 – Multi-scale and Structural Analysis of Point Cloud

For the weekly seminar of the STORM research group, Thibault Lejemble will present his current research work on Multi-scale and Structural Analysis of Point Cloud.

Abstract
With the increasing use of 3D numerical acquisition techniques, point clouds become more and more complex. These unstructured raw data contains acquisition noise, missing data and varying sampling, which make their usage difficult. This presentation, which focuses in particular in pipe segmentation, will first give a review of existing approaches for point cloud segmentation. Then, a method based on the Growing Least Square (GLS) analysis will be presented in order to characterize the geometry of the point cloud and segment it at multiple scale. Finally, some idea will be proposed in order to extract structural information based on the multi-scale segmentations.
