The second editions of the InnEO Startech and the Summer School are coming up!

/ February 25, 2022

The InnEO Space PhD project, whose goal is to prepare young researchers in their early career, is back with its two flagship events, the Startech, which will take place from May 30 to June 3, 2022, and its Summer School, from July 25 to 29, 2022.

Calls for participation are already available and can be found on the website https://inneospace.eu/. You have until April 15, 2022 to respond.

The main objectives of the InnEO Space project are the following

  • Improve and develop the mindset and skills of researchers in innovation through Earth observation.
  • Raise awareness among researchers and scientists of employment opportunities in academia and beyond.
  • Create new synergies between PhD students, researchers, and potential employers.

The Startech will take place online, via a platform dedicated to the project https://www.space-academy.it/start, but there will also be the possibility to follow it in person, in Toulouse.

The program will focus on entrepreneurial skills, inspired by the program launched by WSL in 2012 in Belgium, with the objective of helping engineering school students work on and improve their entrepreneurial skills. Students will put themselves in the shoes of entrepreneurs and will have to act as project managers to turn their ideas into viable/marketable projects/prototypes/products.

Courses on the different steps to follow will be offered: Creativity, business models, canvas, Internet protocol, presentation, start-up creation… There will also be modules on specific concepts and important phases of project/idea/prototype development. A team of teachers and experts will coach the students. At the end of the program, participants will present their projects to a jury.

The summer school will focus on open scientific innovation applied to Earth Observation.

The goal of this program is to develop skills and resources in doctoral students to help them in their young careers. There are two complementary parts to the summer school:

  • High-level scientific lectures on the latest models of artificial intelligence: automated learning, deep learning, and Earth Observation applications
  • Development of transferable skills for employability
  • Soft skills development courses: communication, management, problem solving approach
  • Open science skills: research project management skills, research integrity and ethics skills, IPR and IP, and legal skills.

During the InnEO Summer School, participants will develop new skills in both excellence (modern EO applications using machine and deep learning techniques) and soft skills that are useful for employability outside of academia, while also being potentially useful in academic jobs. The program is divided into different sessions: lectures, working sessions, meetings with speakers, teachers, and industry coaches.

More information on these two programs is available on the InnEO’Space website and on the application process.
