Objectives of the project

Photonics technology offers mature and robust solutions, however, the marketing and large-scale production of new generations of components is still limited by the constraints of industrialization and micro-assembly.
The Photomatiq (TM) project consists in developing the technological building blocks of a "generic" robotized packaging machine (automatic assembly and automatic optical adjustment of lasers and photonic modules).
The Photomatiq (TM) project aims et removing these technological barriers by "increasing" the capabilities of conventional production machines through Artificial Intelligence.
The key to automation is intelligent control of robotic manipulators. This control must be adapted to each class of products, based on a very reduced corpus of examples and in direct interaction with the expert manipulator. These constraints make standard learning approaches such as Deep Learning or genetic algorithms very difficult. This is why the technology of multi-agent systems was chosen because it has shown its ability to solve problems with such constraints.
The main advantages of this artificial intelligence technique are:

  • Real-time consideration of users' requests: the system is designed to "react" to the constraints it faces.
  • A system that continuously seeks to optimize its solution, including in a multi-objective context and therefore in interaction with the user.
  • Training on examples of pre-collected or real-time adjustments by the user, without the need for massive data.
  • Good performance since the system adjusts all the elements in an integrative way, taking into account simultaneously the local constraints of the components and all the objectives and qualitative constraints.
