Abstract

One of the goals of a Fabspace is to create links between Earth Observation (EO) and various application fields, especially those apparently not directly connected to engineering or geoscience. Along this direction, the experience of the Italian Fabspace has yielded so far interesting results. Indeed, it happened that the value of EO data has been exploited in sectors such as medicine or economics. Sometimes the connection with new communities originated from animation events such as challenges, in other cases the users were simply attracted by the Fabspace web page. This growing and new dimension of the EO data has been very much appreciated by Institutions, including the Italian National Copernicus User Forum and the Italian Space Agency, which are soliciting the continuation of the existence of an Italian Fabspace network in the next years.
