FabSpace 2.0 Venezia – IEST – officially announced the Copernicus Hackathon “Supporting Sustainable Development 2030” to be held on the 5th – 7th of October 2018 at Villa Giovannina, Treviso, Italy. The programme is promoted by the European Commission and managed in Italy by IEST – Institute for Technological Development, in collaboration with Lazio Connect, iXitaly and the international network of FabSpace 2.0.

The Hackathon is structured for participants to find solutions, through the use of Copernicus satellite data to solve problems related to water, climate change, and energy to improve the quality of life.

48 hours of brainstorming session supported by experts in the various field including marketing and business development that will assist participants in acquiring methods and tools and turn participants´ ideas into a prototype.

The best idea, which can become businesses, will be brought to the European Commission and supported to win the € 50,000.00 prize with the Copernicus incubation program. The participants will work together with tutors and mentors to “accelerate” the development of their projects and acquire the ability to present the project to potential investors / partners / clients / users.

The challenges are related to:

  • ENERGY – Ensure access to sustainable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all;
  • HUMANITY – To make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable;
  • CLIMATE CHANGE – To act urgently to combat climate change and its impact;
  • WATER – Preserving and sustainable use of the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development;
  • GLOBAL PARTNERSHIP – Strengthen the means of implementation and revitalise the global partnership for sustainable development.

At the end of the First Copernicus Hackathon the jury will reward the best ideas, that could be consider as business, with a value package of € 30,000.00 and will accompany them on the international scene.
