Main research themes

Keywords: Natural language processing, discourse syntax and semantics, language and reasoning.

My research merges foundational aspects with empirical studies and prototype development.
A few generic ideas guide my team's work:

(1) elaborating a formalism and tools for discourse analysis: TextCoop, based on logic, that includes reasoning capabilities (Dislog and the TextCoop platform). Free software available, see link below.

(2) Linguistics and conceptual semantics for language processing: linguistics of argumentation, linguistics of operational texts (procedures, requirements), linguistics of opinion expression, lexical semantics of predicative forms.

(3) Text Clinic: LELIE, improving the quality and contents of technical texts: application to business error correction and style enhancement in procedures and in requirements: The LELIE project. Free software available, see link below. LELIO: automatic customization for a domain: generates cuistomized LELIE versions for the industry.

(4) Argumentation mining in various contexts and domains.

(5) Argumentation, Discourse and Rhetoric in Non-verbal forms of communication: application to western tonal music analysis and modelling.

TEXTCOOP:
discourse semantics analysis, SOFTWARE freely available (French and English), OPEN SOURCE. ENGINE and RESOURCES (argument analysis, discourse analysis).

RECENT VERSION: TEXTCOOP V5.1 (September 2015, archive with the TextCoop engine, and large samples of updates discourse analysis rules and related lexical data). TEXTCOOP V5.1,
TextCoop has been distributed to more than 25 research centers or companies.

LELIE:
ANR project, generic authoring tool to improve the quality of technical texts, in particular error detection with respect to Controlled Natural Language specifications: LELIE
New version: LELIE V2.2
(much more readable than the V1, extended with new features, based on constraints).
LELIE is now associated with a Word-Excel Plug-In: you can call it from your Word or Excel document and make corrections.

LELIE is now directly used or has been customized as a commercial product for various purposes by 8 companies in France and Europe.
Please send email to stdizier@irit.fr or to lelieconsultingnetwork@gmail.com to get LELIE V2.2 and the Plug-In.
Will be soon available for direct download.

Previous version (old, but runs well): LELIE V1, OPEN SOURCE from August 2015. CODE: LELIE V1 French and LELIE V1 English.

The TextCoop and LELIE archives contain a user manual to start the system, running examples are provided.

Activities and Student Supervision

I have been involved over the past 20 years in a number of projects:
EEC: (Graal, Genelex, Eagles), bilateral international (with Portugal, Belgium, Spain, USA, Canada, India, etc.) and national projects.

I am managing at the moment or I recently managed: an ANR project, LELIE (Emergence programme, ended August 2013), a STIC-Asia project on multilingual language processing (Thailand, India, Malaysia, Nepal, the Philippines), an ANR-RNTL project: TextCoop (with LIPN and Sinéqua), a CNRS PICs with Thailand, and IFCPAR project with India (Jadavpur Univ. Kolkata). I also manage a regular collaboration with EADS-IW on procedural text enrichment.

My main institutional contacts have been or are: Kasetsart University (Bangkok), de la Salle University (Manila), Jadavpur University (Kolkata, India), Madan Puraksar Pustakalaya (Nepal), Univ. Of Dundee, Academy of sciences of Varsaw, Poland, Univ. of Potsdam, and LORIA.

I gave about 50 invited talks, among which at labs like MIT, Univ. Of Maryland, ICOT (Japan), NAIST, KUL, Xerox, and many places in Canada and in India.

I have been involved in a number of summer schools, I organized about 14 international workshops (on logic programming for NLP, verb semantics, prepositions, and question-answering (KRAQ series)), and the ACL'01 in Toulouse. I have been involved as a reviewer of or as a programme committee member in a number of journals and major conferences in language processing.

I supervised about 20 PhD students, some under co-supervision, and a number of MA student and engineers.

Collaborations:

Marie GARNIER, PhD, project on French to English errors detection and correction.

Chris REED, Mathilde JANIER, univ. of Dundee, Scotland,
Kasia BUDZYNSKA, Basia KONAT, Olena YASKORSKA, Polish Science Academia, Warsaw,
Manfred STEDE, Potsdam, Germany: Linguistics of Argumentation

COMPANIES: EADS-IW, EDF, SNCF, Orange, etc.
