Marie-Pierre Gleizes is Full Professor at the University Paul Sabatier of Toulouse and researcher at IRIT (Institute of Computer Science in Toulouse – France, www.irit.fr).

 She is in charge of the SMAC (Systèmes Multi-Agent Coopératifs or Cooperative Multi-Agent Systems) team composed of 22 permanent members, 2 associated reserchers, 13 PhD and 1 post-doc and 2 non permanent engineers students.

 She is one leader of the laboratory strategic axis about "ambient socio-technical systems" composed of 11 research teams and 66 permanent members.

 At the university level, she manages the neOCampus scientific and interdisciplinary project which aims at designing a smart, innovative, sustainable campus at Toulouse III University.

Research

 Research Topics

 The main topic of interest is the design of complex systems with emergent functionality. Usually, classical design of computational systems requires some important initial knowledge: first, the exact purpose of the system, and second, every interaction with which the system may be confronted in the future. On the contrary, her researches are concerning theories and methods based on a multi-agent approach in which the global function emerges from the evolving reorganization between the agents.

 She works on adaptive multi-agent systems, self-organisation mechanisms, cooperation and in particular on methodologies to design this kind of systems and she applies these concepts to the ambient system design with a particular focus on context management. She has participated to works about the AMAS theory and the ADELFE methodology. She has applied the adaptive multi-agent systems approach in several national and European projects.

 Responsabilities

 * Leader of the SMAC Team (www.irit.fr/SMAC)

 * Co-chair of the Socio-Technical Ambient System (SSTA) axis. (www.irit.fr/ssta)

 These “socio-technical ambient systems” were defined as systems made up of human beings and components in interactions. Teams from IRIT study models, methods and techniques to increase skills of entities individually or collectively using: reasoning and decision making, learning, self-adaptation, self-organization and interaction. These works deal with properties of hyper-interaction and openness in embedded systems with emergent functionalities. The main application domains concerned by these works are aeronautics and transport(e.g., managing and maintenance aid), health and security (e.g., person assistance, home care) and education (e.g., intelligent campus).

 * Leader of neOCampus (www.irit.fr/neOCampus)
