The SCANMARIS Project

SCANMARIS is an ANR (French national research agency, ANR-07-SECU-006) funded project aiming at increasing the efficiency of monitoring and control of activities of ships at sea.

The project will lead to the development of a prototype system to help safeguard maritime borders by assisting human operators. It will start by using training modules, threat scenarios and investigating rules with the goal of detecting any ships with suspicious behaviour, as well as deducing the importance of the suspicion.

The main strengths of the SCANMARIS workbench include the capacity to integrate heterogeneous information sources, real time large scale vessel behaviour surveillance, multi-agent self-adaptation and learning for optimal threat detection.
