About

I am full professor at the [Université Côte d’Azur](https://univ-cotedazur.eu/) where I am responsible for the track on HCI at the department of Informatics at [Polytech Nice](http://www.polytech.unice.fr/).

I develop my research at the laboratory [I3S](https://www.i3s.unice.fr/) (UMR 6070) in Sophia Antipolis, France where I am member of the [SPARKS team](https://sparks.i3s.unice.fr/) of the CNRS and the joint research project [WIMMICS team](https://team.inria.fr/wimmics/team/team-members/) of the INRIA Sophia Antipolis Méditerranée. I am also associated researcher of the [ICS team](https://www.irit.fr/recherches/ICS/) (Interactive Critical Systems) of the [laboratory IRIT](https://www.irit.fr/) (Institut de Recherche en Informatique de Toulouse).

Since 2020, I am joint-director of the SPARKS team at I3S.

Before joining the Université Côte d’Azur in 2017, I was associated professor/Maître de Conférence (2005-2017) at the Université Paul Sabatier (France), working at the [IUT de Tarbes](https://www.iut-tarbes.fr/) (2005-2009) and at the [FSI](https://www.fsi.univ-tlse3.fr/) (from 2009-2017).

I obtained the HDR at the Univerité Paul Sabatier (2016) and the PhD (2004) at the Université Capitole, both in Toulouse, France. I was post-doctoral fellow (2006-2007) at the Université catholique de Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium. I hold a master degree in Computer Sciences (1999) from the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil.

I am Secretary for the IFIP TC 13 (Human-Computer Interaction) since 2013, member of the IFIP WG 13.4/2.7 (User Interface Engineering), the WG 13.2 (Methodologies for User-Centered Systems Design), and the IFIP committee on IoT. From 2014 to 2019 I served as chair of the WG 13.2. I am member of the Steering Commitee of IFIP TC13 INTERACT conference and senior advisor of INTERACT 2021.

Area of research

My research is concerned by the Engineering of Interactive Systems. I try to find answers to questions such as: How to describe interactive systems? How to assess interactive systems ? Which kind of usability problems can be detected at different phases of the development process? In which extension the identification of usability problems can be automated ? How to help designers and developers (which are ultimately users of tools to build interactive systems) to build usable interactive systems? How to take into account the diversity of users and their needs, specially when users' needs are be evolutive and volatile? For that, I rely on model-based approaches (mainly dialogue models and tasks models) to describe interactive systems, specify users' needs, evaluate the user interaction through the specificiation of the systems, and support the communication of designers and developers of interactive systems.

Along the years, I have investigated the use of models for describing interactive systems in many application domains such ground segment systems, e-government, and mobile applications. Nonetheless, a substantial part of my work was dedicated to the development of Web applications. My current topics of interest in the Web Engineering domain are methods for specifying online/offline navigation and client-side adaptation of Web sites.

In recent years, my research embraced themes of Information Visualization and I am particulaly interested in methods for describing visualization techniques, complex visualization pipelines (more specifically, for processing linked data/semantic Web data) and chained visualizations.
