Increase of automation is one of the main consequences of the changes foreseen by SESAR in ATM. bringing a range of new challenges including those related to possible degradations. The main goals of this project were to understand, monitor and manage the propagation of automation degradation of a single system to the overall ATM system, and to confine and absorb degradation problems, both with and without human contribution. It also aimed at understanding and estimating the implications of degradations for the overall ATM system performances.

  • MARACCASS - Models and Architectures for the Resilience and Adaptability of Collaborative Collision Avoidance System for Spacecraft

    Project page

    2012-09-01 to 2013-09-01

CNES and various international agencies have to cope with the increasing number of space fragments, which are a threat to on-going satellite missions. Collision avoidance management is a collaborative, cross-team, and international activity. Currently, engineers in such teams are assisted with several non-integrated software tools, which have not been developped to support collaborative work. Currently, collision risks are increasing with the number of space fragments. And the available tools are becoming insufficient to assist the teams to manage collision avoidance.

    2010-01-01 to 2013-01-01

The main objective of the Action is to harmonise research and practice on design and evaluation methodologies for computing artefacts, across sectors and disciplines. The Action aims to provide harmonization and leadership currently lacking in this field by bringing together researchers and D&E professionals. Their broad experience of D&E methods deployed in different sectors and disciplines enables comparison of method applications, assessing transferability of both established and novel approaches. These collaborative activities in Working Groups and open Workshops will facilitate production of a generic D&E method selection and application framework and scientific publications reaching the wider research community. The Action will also provide young interdisciplinary researchers with systematic training and networking opportunities such as STSMs and Training Schools.

  • ADVISES - Analysis Design and Validation of Interactive Safety-critical and Error-tolerant Systems

    Project page

    2002-10-01 to 2006-10-01

The engineering of interactive, safety-critical systems is an inter-disciplinary endeavor. This creates a number of practical problems for many different industries. Organizations must integrate techniques and methods for many different disciplines. These range from hardware engineering through to human factors and management. The difficulty of achieving such integration stems in part from a mutual ignorance about these complementary disciplines, in part from a lack of methods in certain areas and in part from a failure to effectively integrate existing methods and techniques. We believe that the only way to solve such a problem is to have a tight integration of research contributions from all the disciplines relevant to the problem, namely:
