Call for papers and/or participation in a challenge as part of SAGEO 2018/Settlement Areas and Other Applications

The idea is to use Sentinel 1 (SAR) images available on CNES or ESA servers, including time series for detecting and delimiting three types of zones such as Urban including suburbs, Villages or small towns, and Isolated houses or small groups of houses. The goal is to produce three “shapefiles” with the zones in questions using three approaches including Radiometric, Polarimetric, and Interferometric.
Geographical Area: Kikwit (DRC) (from a KML file with the influence of the area to be studied).
Important dates: Period to be studied: Second semester 2017 (July 1st – December 31st, 2017)
Deadlines to send replies: 10 September 2018 (first tower), March 2019 (second round).
Evaluation: A ground-truth will be provided in the form of a “shapefile.” It is required to calculate the respective percentages of correct, false positive or false negatives for each type of building. Directed by the organizers (results provided end of September).
Technical aspects: Access to data and virtual machine via the RUS service.
Publication of results: The results can be presented during the Atelier SAGEO workshop 2018 – Fusion of Earth Observation Data for the Prediction of the population and other applications. The objective of this workshop is to bring together actors using Earth observation data for a variety of applications (agriculture, environment, energy, etc.).
A call for contributions is open. We accept proposals for communication presenting the state of the art and/or new proposals and/or the use of existing methods on the challenge or other applications using earth observational data. Submitted papers should follow the LNCS format, 4-6 pages for short papers, 8-12 pages for long papers. The works will be published which may incorporate new elements obtained before the conference (volume CEUR-WS).
Deadline: September 10, 2018
Organizers: FabSpace Toulouse (UPS) and Start-up Diginove.
