The GAMA platform receives an accessit from the Open Science Research Awards

On February 4 and 5, 2022, France organized the Paris Open Science European Conference (OSEC), in the framework of the presidency of the European Union. This event was organized by various organizations such as the Academy of Sciences, CNRS, INSERM, Hcéres, ANR, the University of Lorraine, the University of Nantes and the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation. This event allowed the creation of an open science prize for free software in research. This prize was organized around different themes, related to the transformation of the ecosystem of research and innovation in Europe. Among the topics addressed, the openness of codes and software produced in a research context was the subject of particular reflection. Out of 129 software applications presented, GAMA received a runner-up award in the Jury Prize category. GAMA is a platform developed and maintained by various laboratories, including UMMISCO (IRD/SU), MIAT (INRAE), IRIT, WARM (TLU, Vietnam) and DREAM (CTU, Vietnam). Its development is coordinated by Alexis Drogoul (UMMISCO). Several researchers of the SMAC team of IRIT, and in particular Benoit GAUDOU, who is the referent, actively contribute to GAMA.

Promoting open source software

The Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation has awarded for the first year the Open Science Awards for Open Source Research Software. Ten software products developed by French teams were awarded and recognized for their contribution to the advancement of scientific knowledge. As part of the second National Plan for Open Science, the Open Science Awards for Open Source Software in Research highlight projects and research teams that work on the development and dissemination of open source software and contribute to the construction of a common good of primary importance. Their objective is to recognize the important contribution of open source software production and to draw the attention of the scientific community to outstanding or very promising achievements that can serve as a model for the next generations of researchers and engineers.

GAMA software awarded

The GAMA software is a simulation platform. This platform aims to provide field experts, modellers and computer scientists with a complete development, modelling and simulation environment for building spatially explicit multi-agent simulations. Initiated in 2007, this project concerns digital sciences and mathematics. This software allows to build a model using an easy-to-use modeling language and to run it. GAMA has grown significantly in recent years due to its ability to build and simulate large-scale models, comprising hundreds of thousands of agents and including detailed geographic data. It also has advanced 3D visualization tools as well as tools dedicated to the construction of serious games. This platform is currently used in numerous research projects dealing with issues such as epidemiology, land use change, natural or technological risks, natural resource management or urban mobility.
