An ACM SIGCHI Lifetime Service award
This award recognizes his lifetime of service to the international Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) community.
Since the early 90s, his research has focused on interactive systems engineering by providing notations, methods and tools to integrate multiple properties such as usability, reliability, resilience and, more recently, user experience. These contributions have been developed in collaboration with industrial partners from various application domains such as civil aviation (Airbus), air traffic management (Eurocontrol) or satellite ground segments (CNES and ESA).
Among many other services to the community, Philippe PALANQUE has been deputy chairman of the SIGCHI steering committee (ACM Special Interest Group in Computer Human Interaction) for specialized conferences (EICS, TEI, HRI, IUI, CSCW, UIST, MobileHCI, UbiComp, CHI PLAY…) for 9 years. In 2016, he was mandated to create a steering committee for the CHI conference (Computer Human Interaction, about 3000 participants per year) in order to ensure a coherent and sustainable operation of the conference for the years to come. In 2014, he co-chaired the CHI conference in Toronto.
