Seminar 02/04 – Pierre Mézières – Spherical Harmonics gradient

For the next STORM seminar, Pierre Mézières will give a presentation titled : Spherical Harmonics gradient

Abstract

The spherical harmonics (SH) allow to speed up the calculation of convolution between light and material at each shading point. However, projecting the light onto SH at each frame is a computational challenge. Wu et al. use a sparse grid of probes where the SH projection is computed for each probe then interpolated for each shaded point, this works well because SH coefficients have a smooth spatial variation. They compute the projection of polygonal light sources on SH and the gradient of the coefficients to have a more accurate interpolation. In this seminar, we will see how to extend this kind of work to spherical sources.

This seminar will take place online on Friday 02/04 at 12:30pm.
