Open Areas In Information Retrieval (OAIR read O-air), is the new edition of the RIAO conference (Information Retrieval assisted by Computer), held on a biannual basis. OAIR provides a forum for recent, innovative and open research directions in information processing (text, multimedia, web, social data) and welcomes new and exploratory research contributions. RIAO conferences have been held on a triannual basis in Grenoble (1985), MIT(1988), Barcelona (1991), Rockefeller University (1994), Montreal (1997), Paris (2000), Avignon (2004), Carnegie Mellon University (2007), Paris (2010) and Lisbon (2013). The Steering Committee of the Conference invites interested parties to submit bids to host OAIR 2013. Parties interested in hosting OAIR 2016 are invited to submit proposals, in PDF format, by email to boughanem [:at] irit.fr

Submission Guidelines

Please first submit your expression of interest before making a formal bid Submission Guidelines for expression of interest: Provide general information of the venue, and include the following details:
  • Organizer(s)’ names, affiliation, email;
  • Brief description of the proposed location (city, country);
  • Proposed dates (around April or May 2013);
  • Other supporting details
Submission Guidelines of the formal bid: The formal bid must contain a detailed version of the proposal. Please include:
  1. Hosting Institution
    • Organizers’ names, affiliations, emails
    • Experience in organizing conferences
    • Proof of support from host institution
  2. Location
    The location should be easily accessible and provide
    • Travelling information (accessibility, air, rail, road links)
    • A list of hotels, their categories, and indicative current room prices
    • Other available accommodation during the proposed dates
  3. Venue
    The hosting institution should have access to appropriate conference facilities:
    • Conference site, plenary auditorium, rooms for parallel sessions, poster display space, space for breaks, lunch facilities
    • Internet access
    • Site accessibility for handicapped
    • Catering options (on site or nearby, dietary requirements)
  4. Conference planning
    • Proposed dates
    • Rough conference schedule (presentations, tutorials and workshops)
    • Estimated number of attendees (regular and student)
  5. Registration
    • Registration fee to be charged and what it will include; Student and Normal rates for Conference, Workshops, Tutorials (Early, Late, On-Site)
    • Planned mode of registration payment (online/card payment)
  6. Budget preparation and costs
    • Estimated budget, including itemized projected expenses and itemized projected revenue (student, normal, early, late, sponsors)
    • Organizers must specify the percentage of revenue (minus costs) that will revert to the OAIR association
