Abstract

Planning in AI stands for the model-based approach to autonomy where actions are selected from a model of the actions, sensors, and goals.
The main challenges in planning are computational, as all the models, whether accommodating feedback and uncertainty or not, are intractable in the worst case. In this talk, I'll review some the models considered in planning research and some of the ideas that have turned to be most useful computationally. I'll focus mainly on three threads from our own work on classical planning, planning with partial observability, and planning with nested beliefs in the presence of other agents.
