Interactive Critical Systems

The Interactive Critical Systems (ICS) team at IRIT carries out research centered on the field of Human-Computer Interaction. The mains scientific contributions deal with notations, processes and tools for the design, implementation and evaluation of interactive systems thus having a strong bias towards software engineering or more specifically speaking Interactive Systems Engineering.
That trend of work in the area of interactive systems engineering has been applied in various application areas including Air Traffic Management with a focus on interactive applications for Data Link communications between cockpit and ground.
Other application domains include interactive cockpits (especially new interactive applications compliant with ARINC 661 specification standard), satellite ground segments (command and control systems for various types of satellites) and UAVs command and control systems (French Department of Defense funding).
Beyond these well known safety critical domains, ICS team also addresses domains where the potential costs of a failure is much higher that development costs. This includes application domains such as large web applications and mass market systems such as home entertainment and computer games.
ICS team at IRIT is actively involved in SESAR Programme via HALA! research network and SPAD project. One PhD student is also funded via this research program. Our main research work there deals with automation issues including design, modelling, evaluation and degradation. Moreover, ICS team is or has been involved in several international collaborative R&D projects funded by the European Commission under the FP6 ICT such as the Network of Excellence ReSIST (on resilience) or European Science Foudation (ESF) ones such as MAUSE, TwinTide or Timely (on usability and temporal aspects of interactive systems). ICS team has weaved close relationships with Airbus (research activities) and ruwido. These two companies have long lasting Relationship with us including projects and PhD funding.
The work currently developed for CNES (French National Space Agency) within the project TORTUGA integrating multiple views and models (tasks, interaction, system and training) on interactive workstations for ground segments will be very relevant to SPAD and the tools currently available will be used and extended within the project.
As for web engineering aspects Genigraph is a close Partner involved in projects (ANR for instance) with us.
