In brief ...

I am Professor of Computer Science at the University of Toulouse.

My research domain is Human Computer Interaction and my main interest is in design methods and models for user's interaction with advanced form of Interactive Technique: Mixed Interactive Systems MIS (also known as augmented reality, context-sensitive systems, augmented virtuality, etc.). I am particularly interrested in:

  • developping models to describe different levels of such forms of HCI,
  • coupling design ressources to tend toward a design process for MIS: from requirements to evaluation, through design and implementation
  • exploring and understanding how to apply MIS in 3D environments.

This work is principally applied in the context of knowledge transfer (museum, learning environment) and ambiant systems (home care, augmented environment).

I am leading the Elipse research group of the Research Institute of Computing Science of Toulouse (IRIT). Elipse is an interdisciplinary research group focusing on the modelling, design and evaluation of advanced forms of interactive techniques, used in complex situations (mass applications, disabilities, mobility, etc.).

Finally I am mainly teaching in the Institut Universitaire de Technologie of Toulouse (IUT A). Lessons are principally targetting undergraduate students and deals with Inforamtion systems, Access, ERP and a bit of HCI. In Toulouse I am teaching to master students, especially introducing specificities and constraints of the design and implementation of advanced interaction techniques (mixed interactive systems, augmented reality, tangible UI, mixed reality, etc.).

Short bio

From 1992 to 1996, I first spent 5 years in the Université de Technologie de Compiègne (UTC) where I received a "Master Degree" in Computing Science. During that time I had the opportunity to spend 7 months in Frankfurt-am-Main (Germany) and also 8 months in Vaduz (Liechtenstein) during two training periods.

From 1997 to 2001, I was a student at the University of Grenoble (Université Joseph Fourier). There, I first obtain a Master (DEA) and then did my PhD thesis in the LIG research lab and was supervised by Laurence Nigay and Jocelyne Troccaz. I obtained my PhD in Computing Science in July 2001.

From 2001 to 2002, I spent one year in the Department of Computing Science (DCS) in the University of Glasgow (Scotland - UK) as a visiting research scientist, working with Phil Gray.

Finally in 2002 I "landed" in Toulouse.

From 2002 to 2012, I was "Maître de Conférences" (something like Associate Professor) at the University of Toulouse (France). During this period I was mainly teaching in the Institut Universitaire de Technologie (IUT) in Tarbes where I have also been in charge of the Licence Pro CISPM.

In 2009, I received the Habilitation (HDR : Habilitation à diriger des recherches).
