The 9th IFIP Working Conference on

Engineering for Human-Computer Interaction

Jointly with

The 11th International Workshop on

Design, Specification and Verification of Interactive Systems

Tremsbüttel Castle, Hamburg, Germany,

July 11-13, 2004

EHCI-DSVIS 2004 is a working conference that brings together researchers and practitioners interested in strengthening the scientific foundations of user interface design, specification and verification, and on examining the relationships between software engineering and human-computer interaction. We devote a substantial portion of the time in the conference to an open and lively discussion of papers.  Potential paper topics include:

Software engineering aspects of user interfaces

  • Software architectures
  • Formal methods in HCI
  • HCI models; e.g. context, user, task, object-oriented
  • Impact of distribution on user interfaces
  • Portability, consistency, and integrability
  • Development processes
  • Case studies

User interface tools and techniques

  • Adaptive and customizable systems
  • Interfaces for restricted environments
  • Intelligent interfaces
  • Interfaces for multiple devices
  • World wide web
  • Evaluation of user interfaces: technologies and tools

Innovative user interfaces

  • Interfaces for mobile devices
  • Wearable computing
  • New interface technologies
  • Information visualization and navigation
  • Multimodal user interfaces
  • Perceptual user interfaces
  • Interfaces for groupware
  • Virtual reality, augmented reality

Submission instructions:

Full papers may be up to 6,000 words in length, and will be published in the post-conference proceedings. As for the previous EHCI and DSVIS editions, we expect the proceedings to be published by Springer Verlag in the LNCS series.

Position papers, addressing some aspect of Engineering for Human-Computer Interaction, may be up to 1,000 words in length. Position papers will be published in the informal proceedings circulated at the conference, and may optionally be presented at the conference in poster format.

Papers must be prepared in the conference publications format, and submitted electronically in PDF format.  Formatting and submission instructions will appear on the conference web site.
