WG3 Focus Group : Wired Green Networks
This focus group explores various means of operating communications networks more efficiently, better matching energy consumption with the immediate information transfer demands of end-users. Furthermore, it will explore mechanisms by which cooperation between end-users and the network operators can bring additional benefits. Improvements will be sought at various levels including:
1) Improved communication equipment design using dynamic reconfiguration of the internal architecture, sleep modes and adaptive transmission
2) Signalling protocols capable of coordinating the actions of individual devices to achieve globally more economical use of communication resources
3) Implicit and explicit modification of end-user behaviour (including application software) to facilitate closer cooperation between network operators and their customers.
Duration.
The focus group was initiated in June 2010 and is expected to run for 2 years.
Expected Deliverables.
The primary deliverable will be a final report that will be presented to WG3 upon completion of this activity. In addition it is expected that a number of joint publications between the participants (acknowledging COST IC0804) will be produced during the lifetime of the focus group.
