The IC3 team of the IRIT
Arkeotek has worked for several years with the IC3 team, "Ingénierie des Connaissances, de la Cognition et de la Coopération" (Knowledge, Cognition, and Co-operation Engineering). This team is the product of the merger of the IRIT (Institut de Recherches en Informatique de Toulouse) teams CSC (Conception de Systèmes Coopératifs – Conception of Co-operative Systems) and GRIC (Groupe de Recherche en Ingénierie Cognitive – Cognitive Engineering Research Group) and benefits since the beginning of 2007 from the contributions of researchers from GRIMM (Groupe de Recherche en Informatique et Mathématiques du Mirail – Mirail Computing and Mathematics Research Group)

The Ingénierie de la Connaissance, de la Cognition et de la Coopération (IC3) team has as central mission engineering knowledge and/or co-operative system models.

Nathalie Aussenac-Gilles directs all the common research work.

As part of current work the IRIT’s IC3 team has the mission of setting up the document thematic annotation system in SCD format, and contributes to these documents’ mass consultation system. This task rests on three types of work:

- The creation of an ontology adapted to the corpora to be consulted. This work is carried out within the framework of a collaboration between archaeology of techniques specialists, and specialists in ontologies.

- The creation of a semantic annotation module. Developments in computing are needed to obtain a tool to help this process even if its mastery is still for a specialist in the field. This module must be capable of automatically associating, through natural language analysis, the ontology’s concepts with the texts, and will propose annotation propositions for validation. A prototype partially meeting annotation requirements has been developed by the IRIT. A new version is to be developed in the context of a research project now being set up.

- The creation of the information search and document consultation environment.  This module  is to be developed in collaboration with partner publishing teams.
