Objectives of the Research Project

Training in crisis situations is a recognised way to avoid stakeholders making mistakes. For alleviating costs, this training is usually made in a virtual manner. In order to improve such computer-aided training tools and make them more realistic, techniques such as virtual reality and serious games are used. However, in a general way, the virtual entities involved in the current video games do not have realistic or adaptive enough behaviours to meet the actions of the players/trainees in a real time and adequate manner. Yet this is necessary, in order to train players in the best way by making them confront complex, dynamic and progressive situations.

The aim of the GAMBITS project is to use -whilst improving it- the serious games technology for supporting complex crisis situations training in the maritime security domain. A serious games platform will be built and tools will be added to enable it to adapt in real time to actions of players/trainees. These tools, based on self-organising multi-agent systems, enable managing the behaviours of agents representing virtual entities in a serious game and enable also a self-tuning of parameters for the scenarios played in this serious game.
