Research activities of PYRAMID team are focused on the following problematics :

1- Resource Discovery

In a data grid system, the resource discovery is considered, by the research community, to be the key issue for success. The design of resource discovery methods is very complex because of their heterogeneity, the large number of resources, and instability of the system (i.e. a node can join or leave the system at any moment). In this context, a challenge is to propose efficient resource discovery methods with small maintenance costs for updating meta-data which describe the resources. The (...)

2- Mobile Agent based Distributed Query Optimization

We aim to design and develop an efficient and self-adaptive execution model based on mobile agents for distributed dynamic query optimization. The objective is to decentralize the control and to assure scalability. The main problem is to define a proactive migration policy which allows a mobile agent to decide if it migrates to another site or not to continue its execution. This policy is based on a cost model which considers the profiles of data sources and variations of strongly (...)

3- Location Dependent Mobile Query Optimization

Nowadays, the mobility of units is gaining more and more interest in the scientific community. It raises many challenges, particularly in the field of Databases that include data relating to mobile objects and their localization. In this context, we are focusing on a special request class: localization-dependent mobile requests. Our aims are to design and develop methods for evaluation and optimization of localization-dependent requests with real-time constraints. In particular, these (...)
